She Is

Even today, seemingly subtle differences can greatly impact how people experience a woman and her intentions. The image of a woman photographed in athletic wear modeling a sports bra might communicate strength and endurance, but a woman wearing a similar bikini top might create a more sexualized image. Early in her life, a woman in American society is taught to always be mindful of how her physical appearance may affect others, or run the risk of being perceived in an unintended way. The women in these photographs are shown in atypical positions without a backdrop or context to otherwise define them, in order to provide the viewer with an undiluted and pure experience of each image. The photographs in black and white utilize contrast of light and shadow to emphasize the body as pure form. The color images have a graceful fluidity that is enhanced by the interplay between the subject, lighting and the mesh veil enveloping her.
